Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1” knob fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/3 cup orange juice (fresh squeezed, or store-bought)
  • 3/4 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup grand marnier (or triple sec)

Instructions

  1. Make the cranberry ginger simple syrup: Add sugar, water and ginger to a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir often and heat until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Add the cranberries and syrup (including ginger!) to a blender or food processor and run until dark red and smooth. Pour through a fine mesh strainer to remove the solids. Save the relish in the fine mesh strainer for another use!
  3. Combine the following in a large wide-mouth jar or cocktail shaker: syrup, orange juice, tequila and grand marnier. Screw lid on tight, shake well and pour over a salt-rimmed glass of ice.
  4. Garnish with additional cranberries and an orange wedge.

Notes

  • The equipment section above includes affiliate links to things I use often in my kitchen and recommend.
  • To rim your glass with salt: run the inside flesh of an orange around the rim, then roll the rim in a plate of kosher salt
  • To make a single serving: 1 shot tequila, 1/2 shot grand marnier, 1-2 shots orange juice (to taste), 1 shot syrup.
  • You can use the cranberry/ginger relish to top oatmeal or yogurt. It’s packed with flavor!
