Today is an exciting day on LeanneRay.com – this will be my very last blog post of the year! Since I usually post on Mondays and Thursdays, the holidays kind of threw that schedule off a bit. I thought about doing some random posts sporadically over the next two weeks but then I figured that most people would be busy and it would make way more sense to take some time to re-charge, rejuvenate, and strategize for 2018.
As a wrap up, I thought it would be really fun to recap my top posts of the year. I have learned so much and am continuing to work on this whole blogging thing one day at a time. Seriously, I’ve been blogging on and off for 10 years (!) and I thought I knew a lot, but I was barely scratching the surface until this year. Let’s just say I have a lot of room for improvement!
Top Posts of 2017
Well, either the spark of my birthday or a general interest in learning more about me resulted in this post blowing every other one out of the water. I wrote this when I turned 31 (in mid-October) as a way to share some fun facts that readers might not already know and it got a huge response. I’m taking this to mean that incorporating some more personality into my writing is a good thing, but it might also just mean birthdays are a big deal on Facebook.
I love that this one made the list because this topic is so ME. Also with my now more focused niche of practical cooking/nutrition for busy people, this fit right in since snack boards are pretty much the solution to every cooking dilemma. Be sure to read that one if you missed it.
One of my most recent posts, this one that included a how-to video and recipe round-up, was also a hit. Right after this post went live, multiple people messaged me to let me know that they had just bought a pomegranate but had no idea what to do with it. Success!
SCIENCE. It’s a wonderful thing, isn’t it? I enjoy writing a good science-focused post from time to time but can also appreciate that not everyone is interested in this sort of thing and it can get a little boring. As a hot topic lately, I figured the microbiome might generate some increased buzz and it definitely did. Maybe I’ll make these a monthly feature?
My Earth Day themed post really hit home for a lot of you. It was great to see interest in plant-based nutrition because the whole “how-to make plants more interesting” thing is near and dear to my heart. This one was also shared on Twitter by a few people so that helped with views too.
Some goals for 2018:
Here are just a few things that I want to accomplish that will help me take this blog to the next level.
- Upgrade to a DSLR camera
- Invest in training for food photography
- Publish at least one video each month
- Launch “Spice Up Your Cooking Game” e-course
- Insert printable recipe cards

All of this being said, I also have a small ask for you. I have big things planned for 2018 but I need your help in guiding my content! Could you take five minutes to click over to the form linked below and answer a few questions? It would be incredibly helpful for me.
As an incentive for your time, I’m giving away three, RX Bar prize packs via a random drawing for helping me out. If you aren’t familiar with RX Bars, they are really tasty, super convenient, and made with all whole food ingredients. They come in all sorts of different flavors too including some of the following (the chocolate sea salt is my personal favorite).
If you want in on this, just take the survey at the link below and be sure to enter your e-mail address in the last question. I’ll do a random drawing on Friday 12/29 at 5:00 pm MST (when the survey closes) to choose the winners. The prize will include an assortment of bars/coupons that I’ll send via snail mail. Good luck!
